Refelting.com's Pool
Rules |
My wife and I shoot pool quite often, and have an
established set of rules that we play by. Since we have people over from time
to time, it seemed appropriate to hang a set of our rules on the wall so that
everyone knows what to expect up front.
They're pretty basic, and nobody
has every been put off by them.
First, for eight ball, all you need to
do is call ball and pocket... it doesn't matter how it gets there, just as long
as it does... slop don't count!
You must hit
your own ball first... the eight ball isn't your ball, so it can't be
used.
Not hitting your ball first is a foul, and results in the opponent
having ball in hand. The same for a scratch.
A scratch is either when
the que ball drops, OR you fail to contact one of your balls first,
OR you fail to either drop your object ball, or have it or another ball
contact a rail.
Ball in hand means anywhere on the table... not just
behind the dot.
If a ball bounces off the table, it is a foul, and the
ball is placed on the rack dot... if the rack dot is obstructed, it goes on the
other one.
If you drop the eight ball anywhere other than the pocket
you've called, it is a loss... if you fail to contact the eight ball, it is a
loss... if you bounce the eight ball off the table, it is a loss.
If you
drop the eight ball on the break, it's an automatic win.
Finally,
foul language is highly discouraged... excessive use of foul language could
cause the offender to be asked to leave. |

| 9 ball rules are pretty much the same... hit your
object ball first, slop counts, and sink the nine ball whenever you have a
chance. |
